Summer’s Haven at Doc’s Backyard

Doc’s is an Austin staple of sorts – it’s been around since 2005 and has been slingin good food, drinks, and games. I recently checked out their south “backyard” location and loved everything about it! Tucked in the back of a shopping strip, Doc’s has a huge open patio with a large indoor space equipped with all the tv’s you could ever want. Plus, the service is amazing – it’s a family-run restaurant and they made me feel welcomed as soon as I walked in.

They’ve been offering $1 Lone Stars every day it hits 100 degrees, but they just started doing $1 margaritas for these 100 degree days too! What’s better than an ice cold marg on a crazy hot summer day?!

One of my favourite things on the menu is the power bowl: it comes with your choice of grilled chicken, pulled pork or fish, black beans, pico de gallo, cilantro lime rice & avocado. I went with blackened fish and it was superb! I loved the freshness of this dish and the plentiful avocado slices!

If you’re as into the World Cup as I am, fish n chips is the perfect dish to accompany all the soccer-watching! They hand batter the fish, accompany it with Doc’s Chipotle cole slaw & french fries and serve it with jalapeño tartar sauce. DELICIOUS!

These tater tots were another fave of mine. You’ll need at least one or two other people to share this with because it is INTENSE. These tots are topped with housemade queso, smoked applewood bacon, green onions & sour cream. You can add chili, beef picadillo or pulled pork for $2 (we were kicking ourselves for not adding a fried egg on top, because that would’ve been perfect).

Doc’s also serves breakfast all day, so if you roll in at 4pm craving some eggs and bacon, they got your back! The fried egg sandwich comes with eggs, smoked applewood bacon, American cheese, lettuce & tomatoes on a brioche bun and it’s served with home fries. Those country home fries are so dang good. Oh and did I mention the East Cider Blood Orange mimosa?! It’s deeeelightful.

BLAT sliders. ‘Nuff said.

I wish I could’ve tried the whole menu, but it is HUGE! Everyone can find something they’ll love, whether it’s one of the menu items I tried, or their tacos, salads, nachos, or sandwiches (plus desserts). They also have incredible weekly daily – read all about them here!
