Restaurant Review: Dogwood

Most of us who have frequented downtown wouldn’t think of Dogwood as a place to get a really
great bite to eat. However, the new location on Rock Rose at the Domain has changed the game.

IMG_1949After showing up to Salvation Pizza on Rock Rose only to find it not even opened, I hangrily decided to just eat at Dogwood across the street with my boyfriend, Joel. I was shocked to find amazing entrees and choices on their menu! I was seriously pleased with the options and was excited for my meal (as was Joel).

I mean LOOK at this. A fresh warm brioche bun hugging mixed greens, a perfectly tender beef patty with gouda cheese melting down the sides. Not to mention the perfectly crisp fries (and the beautiful presentation!) This has to be one of my new favourite burger finds, mainly because I was NOT expecting it to be this gourmet! Sipping my Thirsty Goat with bites of this glorious creation left me to be a very happy lady. For only $12 it is definitely worth trying. Plus, compared to other restaurants in town that claim to have the best gourmet burger, this one definitely has serious competition.

uploaddJoel got their steak street tacos. Again, we were shocked at how delicious they were! Three full tacos with an amazing chipotle crema sauce covering incredibly tender steak, pico, lettuce and cotija cheese. It was FANTASTIC.  After trying both the cheeseburger and several bites of Joel’s tacos, I am definitely going back to try some of their other creations.

IMPORTANT NOTE: One thing that I will say is that with the tacos and the sliders, you can only get one of the same thing for all three tacos/sliders. I tried order the sliders with one being cheeseburger, one pulled pork, and one grilled chicken but was saddened when they said they have to all be the same. That is something to definitely keep in mind when surveying the menu.

So, if you find yourself at the Domain and don’t want the same old Gloria’s or CPC, head over to Rock Rose and head to the beautiful two story Dogwood. I chuckle at the fact that this bar on west 6th is NOTHING like the one I went to on Rock Rose. You’ll find yourself delightfully not surrounded by – well – the West 6th type of people/scene.

Have you been to the new Dogwood? Let me know what you think!
